Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman is being barred from returning home, alleged the party’s acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Mirza Fakhrul, however, said on Monday that the BNP leaers are hopeful that Tarique Rahman’s physical condition will improve and he will be able to come back home.
The BNP acting secretary general was addressing a programme arranged by the BNP’s student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal at the party’s central office in the capital’s Naya Paltan area.
It was arranged to mark the day of anniversary when Tarique was sent to jail in 2007.
Mirza Fakhrul said that the illegal government that came to power through political changeover on 11 January 2007 and formed the government to preside over the process of de-politicisation in the country arrested Tarique in a completely illegal manner.
“He [Tarique] was tortured in jail, too,” Fakhrul added.
The BNP leader also said he [Tarique] is on exile now also for not being allowed to return home.
Rather, Fakhrul pointed out, numerous cases have been filed against him. There is a conspiracy to send him out of politics once and for all.
