Newsworld Desk:

Bangladesh have thrashed Sri Lanka by 23 runs in the fifth encounter of the Asia Cup T20 tournament at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka’s Mirpur on Sunday.

Chasing 148-run target set by Bangladesh, Lankan players scored 124 runs after losing 8 wickets in their 20 overs.

Shakib bagged Shehan Jayasuriya (26) and   Dinesh Chandimal (37) was caught in Taskin’s hand in a Mahmudullah delivery while Mustafizur came back in the 14th over to take the fourth Lankan wicket.

Sri Lanka lost half their side by the 15th over. Mashrafe Mortaza sent back Siriwardana with a slower ball to upset Sri Lanka’s progress. Siriwardana picked the slower ball, cleared his front leg, slogged it straight to the fielder at deep midwicket.

The tigers finished at 147 losing 7 wickets in their 20 overs after Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza won the toss and opted to bat first.

Sabbir Rahman’s trademark batting pushed Tigers total to set the fighting target. He hit a fabulous 80-run by 54 balls hitting 10 fours and three sixes.

Shakib Al Hasan added 32-run of 34 balls hitting three boundaries in third wicket stand.

Kulasekara and Mathews of Sri Lanka swung the new ball. However, once the ball got older, Kulasekara looked short of ideas. Dushmantha Chameera though, impressed with raw pace and snared three wickets.
