The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday interrogated four senior officials of Janata Bank in connection with a loan scam.

A five-member ACC team, led by its deputy director Mir Joynul Abedin Shebly, quizzed them from 10 am to 1 pm at the ACC head office, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB.

The four Janata Bank officials are DGM Ajmal Haque (corporate branch), AGM Ajoy Kumar Ghosh, DGM Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal and GM Abdus Salam Azad (head office).

Moshnawear Product Limited, a metal galvanising firm, took a loan of Tk 16 crore from Janata Bank in 2005. Later, firm owner Mahbubur Rahman applied to the Janata Bank authorities seeking interest waiver claiming that his firm turned ‘sick’.

In October 2011, a meeting of the bank’s board of director waived the interest of the 12 crore loan without any scrutiny as the bank officials helped the firm get the interest waiver, ACC sources said.

Later, the ‘sick’ firm was sold to controversial Hall-Mark Group at Tk 35 crore.
